Book Cover

March 25, 2009

For this assignment we were tasked with designing a book cover for the novel, “Einstein’s Dream’s.”  We had to read it and then make an appopriate cover.  I felt the book had less to do with Einstein and physics than it did with an exploration into nihilism by the author, Alan Lightman.  I understood the book but felt it had no meaning, which might be what was intended in the first place.

This ‘vibe’ that the book was emanating was the inspiration for my cover piece.  The theme that came to my mind was a person walking on a disconnected path into a void.

In order to express this idea of void, I felt that an image of outerspace would be suitable. I looked for an image of a nebula on NASA’s website that also had a nice color gradient in it in order to pull the viewer from the front to the back of the cover.
